Board requirements, roles, & responsibilities

About The Rosewood Initiative:

The Rosewood Initiative is a place based nonprofit located in East Portland, Oregon, on SE 141st & Stark Street, that has been implementing neighbor-led strategies since 2009.

Our community is beautiful and resilient but under-resourced and financially burdened. One of the most diverse areas in the state, 28% of neighbors were born outside the US and over 140 languages are spoken. Nearly 9% of our area is home to Black Portlanders compared to just 2% of Oregon, many of whom have been displaced by gentrification.

Historic disinvestment has left our neighbors without adequate public systems; these inequities deprive our community from access to economic opportunities, healthcare services, recreation, and social decision making processes. The Rosewood Initiative was founded to address these inequities.

Mission: Building a safe, healthy, and vibrant community where neighbors can thrive together.

Theory of Change: As a community anchor, The Rosewood Initiative will foster community building and be a resource hub for East Portlanders most impacted by systemic exclusion. We strive to improve access to support systems that foster economic stability and upward mobility, health and wellness, and community resilience across East Portland neighborhoods.

2024 board member recruitment priorities include East Portland business owners, or those with expertise in legal, development, sales, or human resources.
